Pearly Penile Papules are small, skin coloured, tube or dome-shaped bumps situated circumferentially around the glans of the penis, in one or several rows. This skin condition affects approximately 30% of the male population, with a greater incidence in uncircumcised men, between 20 and 30 years. The condition decreases proportionately with age. Pearly Penile Papules have no well-determined cause or triggering factor, they are benign, not sexually transmissible, hence not caused by an STD and have no connection to personal hygiene. The most plausible cause according to some dermatologists is an obstruction in the sebaceous glands.
The Pearly Penile Papules are easily identified during a dermatological or histological consultation undertaken by a specialist who can make an accurate diagnosis and thus recommend a specific treatment. Naturally, Pearly Penile Papules are asymptomatic and do not require any special treatment, however most men presenting these skin lesions are extremely bothered by the negative cosmetic impact they have upon their sex life as the PPP are often mistaken for certain STDs, such as genital warts or molluscum contagiosum.
As we have previously mentioned, Pearly Penile Papules do not necessarily require removal, but taking into account the cosmetic aspect, patients can choose from a series of PPP removal treatments such as CO2 laser, electrocautery, excisional surgery, radiosurgery and various natural remedies. Among all these, our specialist Dr. Jha, recommends radiosurgery due to the cosmetic advantages it ensures regarding the final results and the low level of invasiveness of the procedure. Compared to PPP removal with the CO2 laser technology which requires at least two sessions in a gap of 2-3 weeks, radiosurgery for PPP removal only takes a single off treatment which lasts between 15 and 30 minutes.
We must mention that the PPP removal radiosurgery treatment is available only at Renew Skin & Health Clinic, where it is performed under the close supervision of our specialist, Dr. Jha, providing you with the best cosmetic results and the most comfortable type of procedure there is. You will not be disappointed!
